Geometry and temperature dependent thermal conductivity of diamond nanowires A non-equilibrium molecular dynamics study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using non-equilibriummolecular dynamics methods, the analysis of geometry and temperature dependent thermal conductivities of diamond nanowires is carried out. It is found that at the same temperature conditions, thermal conductivities of diamond nanowires increase with increasing lengths, ranging from 20 to 350 nm and cross-sectional areas ranging from 2 to 30 nm. At the same length, temperature and cross-sectional area conditions, thermal conductivities of /0 1 1S crystal orientation diamond nanowires are larger than those of other crystal orientation diamond nanowires. First, in the temperature range 0–1000 K, thermal conductivities of diamond nanowires increase with the increase in temperature, and then they decrease. The results of our calculation have also indicated that all thermal conductivities of the diamond nanowires analyzed here are smaller than those of the corresponding orientations in bulk diamond. Finally, a relationship between thermal conductivity and density of phonon state is discussed. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

متن کاملRole of Interatomic Potentials in Simulation of Thermal Transport in Carbon Nanotubes
Interatomic potentials, which describe interactions between elements of nanosystems, are crucial in theoretical study of their physical properties. We focus on two well known empirical potentials, i.e. Tersoff's and Brenner's potentials, and compare their performance in calculation of thermal transport in carbon nanotubes. In this way, we study the temperature and diameter dependence of thermal...

Molecular dynamics simulations were used to calculate the thermal conductivity of carbon nanotubes and diamond nanowires with atomic interactions modeled by the Brenner potential. The dependence of thermal conductivity on length, temperature, and temperature “boundary” condition was investigated. Lengths from 50 nm to 1 μm were simulated at a temperature of 290 K, and additional simulations wer...
